Advice and Fashion Trends

As you know, I haven't given a single advice about any style yet. I will eventually shed some lights and give suggestions but I'm just going to make a few statements about the fashion trends and advice you read or hear about. Not all fashion trend or advice is for everyone. For all I know, the fashion trends that you see in a magazine like GQ, Vogue, or Details may not be for you. I mean sure you may like the look but it doesn't always mean that it's for everyone but they really do try to make it for everyone. I remember a friend shared a link about fashion trends men hate that women wear. I was watching the video and reading the fashion trends like UGG boots, red lipstick, over-sized sunglasses, and such and I honestly didn't see anything wrong with them. There's nothing wrong with the trend, just something wrong with some of the women wearing them. Some people don't have the looks to pull it off. Clearly, it is not their style and if it's not your style then don't wear it. Just be you. Whenever you see the fashion trend of a season like fall this year, go to your favorite store with your friend(s), try that sweater you saw from that magazine/website on, and see how it looks before you immediately buy it. The worst thing that can happen is going back to the store to return it or wasting money and letting that shirt sit until you throw it into the donation box.

A Part of History

One of the most amazing things that I love about good clothes is history. Like the blue jeans you wear today! Levi Strauss created the first blue jeans in 1873 during the Gold Rush in San Francisco. What a monumental moment right? Well, that is history but that's not exactly the type of history I want to talk about. In my earlier post, I mentioned how I love my clothes because it has some personal history. And the best type of history is personal history because it's not only relative to you but also more important to you than anyone else. And believe it or not, there's a personal history with the clothes you wear. It may be boring, funny, special, cool. I've heard and read many interesting stories and traditions about clothes. I read an amazing short story of something as little as a watch somewhere (Darn, I forgot). A father was celebrating his son's birth by buying himself a great looking watch which he wore everyday as he was raising his son. The day the son turned 18, the father looked at him and said "Son, I don't know if you've noticed this, but I've been wearing this watch since the day you were born and I have taken great care of it just as I have taken good care of you. I'm not giving you this watch because it's your birthday. I'm giving this watch to you as a sign that I know you can take care of yourself." Great present right? The watch not only has a story to tell but it also serve as a sign of manhood and trust which carries a memory of a loving father. Just know that you can give a meaning to whatever you wear. It's special not because you wear it or someone else have worn it but because of its history. As long as you keep wearing what you're wearing, you create some remarkable history with them.

Why do you care about the clothes you wear?

I really hope the picture of Neil Patrick Harris answers the question of the post. I understand why people may not care about fashion or the clothes they wear. From my presumption, they can be very content with their own pick of clothes, with themselves, or the way they look, or maybe they don't understand fashion at all. Fashion can be a complex concept to understand. If I were to talk to someone who doesn't understand fashion about why I love fashion, I would try to answer that question "Why do you care about the clothes you wear?" My answer to the question always seem different each time I ask it to myself. I come up with answers like "I like to look nice and clean," "It keeps me happy," "If I don't take care of my clothes then it won't last as long as I want," or "each piece have a small history that's important to me." The clothes you wear add small details about yourself. An easy example, the stains on a dress shirt you wear to work make a statement to people around you like your boss. It's most likely going annoy your boss because it not only shows how poorly you present yourself but also how your life out of work is like. Your boss is going to wonder a little why those stains weren't taken care of. He/She may think that you're a messy person or you haven't been taking good care of yourself. It really depends on how bad those stains are but you get what I mean by the small details. A harder example, a pocket square on someone's nice, clean suit. The pocket square really stands out, shows how bold you are, and fills in the blank of that chest pocket. That boss of yours is going to be a little more impressed depending on how well you pull it off. Something as little as a pocket square can make a good impression. I'm not telling people to go out and buy themselves some expensive clothes and accessories to do that. You really don't need expensive clothes and accessories to do all that. You can make something like a pair of jeans you can afford look just as nice as an expensive pair that you wouldn't pay for as long as you take good care of it and find the right style and fit for you. If you get up in the morning and dress yourself comfortable and happy with what you have that's great because that's who you are. If you're not happy with what you're wearing or you don't think the clothes you're wearing portrays you, do something to change that; take better care of your clothes, change your wardrobe, or be more conscious about the clothes you're about to buy for next time. You're really doing yourself a favor from doing all this.

The mailman delivered his first post!

I have always thought that I should be blogging about something special and meaningful to me. It took me about 3 years after making a blog to actually know what I want to blog about. I mean sure, during those times that I was blogging, I was blogging about my own life and philosophy but I don't want to be blogging about the days of my life because for all I know, it may be boring or just like anyone else's life. What I'm doing is blogging an important part of my life because I'm learning fashion and I'm attending Fashion Institute of Technology this summer (May 31st-July 27th). For those of you who do not know, Fashion Institute of Technology is in Manhattan, New York on Seventh Ave at 27 Street. The school is one of the top five fashion schools in the WORLD! And I have never felt so excited in my life and I thank everyone who supported me. I'm really doing my best to follow my dreams and become a major role in the fashion world one day. At this point, you might be wondering "Why does this GUY love fashion so much?" Well, there's really a lot of things that I like about fashion and I could go on and on and forever about why I love it. Isn't that what a blog is all about? :) So stay tuned!
